INSTALL YOURSELF IN AN ART GALLERY Simulated proposal for event designed to publicize the monthly South First Fridays Art Walk in downtown San José, California. The brief called for something out of the ordinary, in keeping with the spirit of the walk, and my collaborator and I suggested installing a giant packing crate, several blocks in length, along the main art walk route. Participants would get from gallery to gallery by entering the crate and wading through a river of packing peanuts. The photos here show a thematic package developed to pitch the idea to the imagined client. The box opens onto a map of the art walk route, which in turn opens onto a detail of the map and a model illustrating the event. Click the slide-show controls to see how the package operates and read the pitch. A team effort with fellow student Miriam Chan. The overall concept, tagline, logo design, copy, initial map design, photo shoot idea, and many of the applications and illustrations were mine. Miriam insisted on the box, built the model, made the map sing, and came up with the great packing-slip idea. She also reined in my verbosity. I loved working with Miriam.
